How we calculate this
Methodology and source handling
We calculate pixel dimensions from the visible size values, aspect ratios, DPI/PPI formulas, and source notes on this page.

Document Sizes entries
Start with the destination: hiring portal, printer, screen, presentation room, or marketplace upload. Then choose the physical size, calculate pixels only when raster output is needed, and verify bleed or safe-area rules before export.

Intent
Job documents: resume vs CV
| Use case | Best starting size | Export note |
|---|---|---|
| US resume | US Letter, 8.5 x 11 in | Export PDF with selectable text; rasterize only if a portal requires an image. |
| International CV | A4, 210 x 297 mm | Keep all pages the same size and embed fonts in the PDF. |
| Portfolio preview | Match the destination page, then create a PNG/JPG preview from the final PDF if needed. |
Workflow
Design documents and print pieces
| Format | What to decide first | Common trap |
|---|---|---|
| Presentation | 16:9 vs 4:3 before placing slides | Changing aspect ratio after design can move or crop content. |
| Business card | Trim size, bleed, and safe text margin | QR codes and contact details too close to trim can be clipped. |
| Flyer or poster | Distribution size, viewing distance, and print DPI | Large posters do not always need 300 PPI, but logos and type must stay sharp. |

FAQ
Common questions
Should a resume be US Letter or A4?
Use US Letter for most US jobs unless the employer requests another size. Use A4 for many international or CV-style submissions.
Should a CV be A4 or US Letter?
Use A4 by default for most CV workflows, and switch to US Letter only when the application or regional workflow expects a North American page.
What presentation size should I use?
Use 16:9 widescreen for modern screens and video-friendly sharing. Use 4:3 only for legacy projectors or fixed templates.
What business card size includes bleed?
A common US business card is 3.5 x 2 in trim. With 0.125 in bleed on every side, build 3.75 x 2.25 in, or 1125 x 675 px at 300 DPI.
